My dad is a practical joker and is fascinated by gross things.
A very dangerous combination.
I was eating dinner last night, minding my own business, when my Dad decided to come on up and show me something.
Not gonna lie, I almost puked. As many of you know by now, I HATE BUGS. I will bungee jump off of the world’s tallest tower without hesitation, but I will NOT touch an insect unless my very life is on the line, let alone a wasp-parasite-infested-caterpiller.
Ugh. Ugh! UGH!
But…if you’re weird and interested in that kind of stuff, you can see a high-res of the parasite caterpillar zombie my dad found HERE.
Did you click the link? Gross.

UPDATE: I found out that the hornworm caterpillar that was covered in parasites was actually being a huge pest in my mom’s tomato garden, so I’m kind of glad it was getting consumed.
Plus, I learned that when they transform, they turn into one of THESE.
AUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHHH!!! If I had to rank my least favorite bugs, moths are my number one!
So good riddance, and good job, little waspies!

I do recall promising a sushi-making demonstration next time I visit Casa de Whang. Caterpillar rolls are definitely on the menu.

Not quite sure which is really more gross. A hairy/furry moth, or a big long green moving booger.

If I were to find a silver lining in this white-lined green caterpillar cloud of a story, it would be that this is a touching love story. The unassuming (typically male) caterpillar gets infected by a female wasp (let’s just assume their gender roles for now) and sacrifices his entire body and existence for the gain of solely that of the FEMALE parasitic wasp. The MALE caterpillar actually defends the larvae once they are hatched until he starves to death by their side. WOW. I sense a Korean drama in the works. Ya dig?

Hmmm. Not to get all religious, but I saw this situation as a spiritual metaphor. If we are in a spiritual coma, we can become like the caterpillar, hosting sins and spiritual baggage in a zombie state that ultimately leads to the host’s demise and the perpetuation of future misery. It painted a pretty graphic picture.
